Where is Jamaica’s blueprint for a new Cuba?

Jamaica Abandons Cuba while Cuba Starves

Jamaica's Two-faced of Cuba

By Professor Gilbert Morris
Nassau, N.P., The Bahamas

This is why I oppose with all the vitriol of a penitent representative government: who are they to divorce the Jamaican people from their history of standing firm?

How could they have made Jamaica a country that received 50 years of Cuban generosity and genius, and now they are being starved, Jamaica abandons them?

I will speak as did St Paul who told the disciples that they walked with Christ, but he was a better Christian.  We are all better Jamaicans who voted against the embargo.

We gained this spirit not only from Dutty, Garvey and Marley and but from our Jamaican teachers…whom we adored.  Now psychologically, it’s impossible to see Jamaica in their light!

Jamaica cannot now claim Bob Marley or Marcus Garvey…for they laid a moral track from which this shift in policy divides so bluntly.

Suppose you say Jamaica was caught in a “moral squeeze”…let’s say Jamaica opposes the illegal embargo (which surely it must) and yet, Jamaica also opposes the Cuban regime.

Fair enough: but where is Jamaica’s blueprint for a new Cuba which was presented to and rejected by the regime?  Where are the forty 40 foot containers of relief for the Cuban people…to show them both appreciation for all they’ve given Jamaica in lives saved and to demonstrate that the abstention is not against the Cuban people?

If Jamaica of all places can’t stand up for Cuba, given Jamaica’s history and can’t show more subtly in its reactionary fever to fling itself into the arms of Trinidad….then what can Jamaica defend.

US VISA Restrictions on Complicit Politicans and their Family Members involved in the Cuban Government's Coercive Forced Labor Export Scheme

USA Visa Restrictions on African, Cuban, and Grenadian Government Officials Involved in the Cuban Regime’s Coercive Forced Labor Export Scheme

Visa Restrictions USA

Today, the Department of State took steps to impose visa restrictions on African, Cuban, and Grenadian government officials, and their family members, for their complicity in the Cuban regime’s medical mission scheme in which medical professionals are ‘rented’ by other countries at high prices and most of the revenue is kept by the Cuban authorities.  This scheme enriches the corrupt Cuban regime while depriving the Cuban people of essential medical care.

The United States continues to engage governments, and will take action as needed, to bring an end to such forced labor.  We urge governments to pay the doctors directly for their services, not the regime slave masters.

The United States aims to support the Cuban people in their pursuit of freedom and dignity and promote accountability for those who perpetuate their exploitation.  We call on all nations that support democracy and human rights to join us in this effort to confront the Cuban regime’s abuses and stand with the Cuban people.
